A few months ago, I received an email from Reebok about possibly being involved in their Reebok Mom Workout Series, where I would get the chance to review some of their Reebok CrossFit gear and share my thoughts (and an amazing giveaway, wink wink) with you. I almost fell out of my chair, actually cried a little, texted my husband, texted my girls from the gym and then responded with a resounding YES. No self-respecting CrossFit girl could turn this down. Plus, I figured you guys would string me up by my toes if I turned down the chance to give away some Reebok stuff to you.
First, let me tell you a few things about me and my workout clothes.
When I used to work out at home, you could find me barefoot in an old ratty t-shirt and shorts, sometimes just an old ratty sports bra. While my workouts were hard, there wasn’t a ton of intense movement or heavy weight lifting, so the clothes didn’t seem to affect me that much.
As soon as I started CrossFit, I realized my old ratty clothes weren’t going to cut it. Not because I wanted to look good, but because I needed clothing that was more functional. When you are quickly jumping between movements, on and off the ground, running, lifting heavy bars and medicine balls, you don’t want clothes that are going to get in the way or that constantly need to be adjusted. And trust me, you need a pair of pants that are not going to fall down, sag or show off what you’re working with in the middle of a workout.
For all of these reasons, I am willing to spend money on a few good items. I’m not saying I went right out and replaced my wardrobe and stole all of the money out of our grocery budget. Over time however, I picked up a few good quality tanks, bras and pants. I have bought cheaper items that don’t hold up well through constant use and multiple washings. They end up losing their shape, losing their elastic or just not fitting correctly.
Why all the chatter about money and workout clothes? The gear I reviewed from Reebok is on the pricier side. I want you to know that I only chose to review things that I would actually spend the money on if I needed to. Good solid workout clothes are worth every penny.
I have been looking for a new sports bra that is lined and actually supportive. I despise clothes when I am working out (it’s a miracle I wear pants at the gym), so I tend to take my shirt off a LOT. I needed something that was going to hold everything in and not give everything away. It’s hard for me to spend a lot of money on something without a personal recommendation, but this bra is pretty awesome.
The lined cups are very supportive and the material wicks moisture away better than most bras I’ve seen. I love the style of the back, the fabric basically runs straight down your spine which means that the straps cut in more and don’t suck straight up to your armpit. The band has just a small amount of stretch, which makes it a little tougher to get on, but you can rest assured it’s not going anywhere. For a fuller-chested woman (read: NOT me), this bra would be amazing.
The Performance Capris were what I really wanted to put to the test. The fit was comfortable and the material is thick enough to feel secure, but not so thick that I will hold in enough body heat to survive an ice storm. I really like the thick waistband, it’s not pinch off your extra skin tight, but secure enough to keep the pants where they need to be in the middle of a workout.
A word on the sizing: These pants really and truly seem to be designed by CrossFitters, for CrossFitters. I normally wear a medium in workout pants, but I almost could have gone with a small. I really feel like these are made for women with bigger thighs and behind (read: CrossFit thighs). The medium will work just fine, but keep this in mind when ordering. Good news, Reebok offers free shipping and free, easy returns if you make the wrong choice.
Now on to the important question. Do they stay put in the middle of a workout. Let’s put these babies to the test.
Overhead squat hold in the middle of a nasty, sweaty hot mess of a workout? Check.
Back squats off the rack? Check.
They even stay put when you’re making an Angry Back Squat Face.
Practicing your muscle ups while your husband looks cool in the background with his sweat band? Check.
I did double unders, burpees, box jumps, power cleans and more and the pants did really well. The only time I ever felt a little sagging was when I was running in 90 degree weather holding a medicine ball on my shoulder. I think the only reason I thought they were going to fall off was because my hands were preoccupied and I was going into panic mode that I’d be flashing traffic. Otherwise, they were awesome.
So far, I’m really impressed with my Reebok CrossFit gear. Not only do they have high quality pants, bras and tops for basic work outs, they also have some super cute and trendy tank styles. These will definitely be on my list for future purchases and not just because wearing Reebok makes me feel a little bit CrossFit legit. Or because I now match my husband’s love for Reebok and his smurf-blue Nanos.
Question: What is most important to you when choosing workout clothes and gear? I really need items that will hold up well to sweat, multiple washings and don’t need to be constantly adjusted.
