Netflix: Newly launched family site + free one-month trial

by Emilie on July 11, 2013

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Netflix, the opinions are 100% mine. I can’t lie. I love it.

Summer! Oh, how I love not having to rush out of bed and get the kids out the door. Most of our mornings have started with cuddles in bed watching Netflix. features several new categories including Family Movie Night, Are We There Yet and TV for Curious Kids. I’ve been really impressed with the selection available.

They are currently offering a 1-month free trial if you are a new customer.  Click here to check out Netflix and see the information on signing up for the free trial.  After your trial period, monthly subscriptions are as low as $7.99 per month.

Don’t two of my little people look so sweet watching Superhero Squad in bed? This was right before they hit each other in the face for “being annoying”.  I’m in the trenches here friends, breaking up sibling arguments is how I spend most of my waking hours. Maybe I don’t love summer break actually.

One of the things I like most about Netflix is that you can easily search the kid-friendly options.  The movies and shows that we generally watch and I approve of always pop up at the top so the kids can easily click on them and find what they are looking for.

Netflix Family Favorites

When I’m feeling a little guilty about how much TV the kids are watching when it’s beautiful outside, I make them watch educational shows like LeapFrog or WordGirl. It makes me feel 10% less guilty for not being a perfect mom and not filling our days with Pinterest worthy crafts and activities.  My 6-year-old son is not impressed if I do this. Can you tell by the look on his face? He would prefer to watch Spider-Man all day. Every single minute of the day. He also is not impressed with clothes.

I’ve mentioned it before, but I really am obsessed with Netflix. Because it’s not tied to a device at your house, it’s totally portable. Here is a list of times that we’ve used Netflix already this summer.  It’s amazing!

  • Through wifi, on the ipad in Starbucks in Dublin, Ireland because it was pouring so hard we got trapped
  • In my bed on the iPhone while we were trying to be quiet so the jet-lagged siblings didn’t wake up
  • At my parents house on the Apple TV when babysitting grandparents were too worn out to do anything else
  • Every single morning on the TV (through the Wii) so I get a shower
  • In the car, with the girls strapped in their carseats on the iPhone so I could clean the kitchen without interruption.  I’m not kidding, I did this. Don’t worry, I could see and hear them from the kitchen.

And about a million other places. But I swear that my kids really don’t watch TV all day.  It just looks like that from my pictures and my stories.  They do other stuff too, I promise! Just not those Pinterest crafts. I just didn’t quite get to those yet. Next summer, I’m on it.

Is Netflix/Families any different than regular Netflix? Are there different shows available, or different parent settings available thru the Families membership? We already have a Netflix streaming subscription – is the Family page something I already get, or can add for free on my existing Netflix account? Thanks!
