Fall Favorites TBFL Oct13

Emilie and I were recently talking about all the things we love about fall and thought it would be fun to share some of our favorite must-have items for the season.  We’d love to hear what yours are as well!

You can also check out Emilie’s Fall favorites for more fun items.

Zella Live-In Leggings

Or if I haven’t convinced you yet, any old leggings will do.  I have a few different brands, but only wear them if my Zellas are so filthy that nobody can stand to be around them.  I’m kind of a leggings snob.

I’ve mentioned these before, maybe once or twice.  I know they’re spendy, but they are FANTASTIC.  The quality is amazing, they are more than thick enough to wear on cold days with boots, but not so dang thick that you will sweat your face off when you’re inside.  They are crazy comfortable and reversible for those days when you spill your lunch on them or your dear sweet child wipes his sticky face on them.

I wear them around the house, on the airplane, dress them up and go dancing, sometimes even wear them to work out on maddeningly cold days.  Super versatile.  I should be a spokesperson, but alas, I’m not.  Just a giant lover of all things Zella.

The Best Tea on the Planet

A few years ago, on a particularly rough day, a friend of mine brought me a cup of hot tea to our mom’s group to try and perk me up.  Little did I know that it would change the course of history.  Or at least my buying habits and the stock of a company called Good Earth.

Ever since that fateful day, every fall and winter season comes with a zillion cups of Good Earth Sweet & Spicy.  It is orangey and clovey and sort of sweet and fall-like and homey and AMAZING.  On occasion, I mix it with some Mandarin Orange Spark for an afternoon pick-me-up, but it’s fab all by itself.  I rarely (if ever) have sugary treats, so this is my addiction vice true love.

You can find it at most grocery stores, but I generally pick it up at Winco for around $3/box.  Most days, I use the tea bag twice because the flavor is so strong.  I dunk it 3-4 times for my first cup and then save it for my afternoon cup.  I’m so thrifty.

I’ve never been a giant fan of jackets.  I’ll wear a heavy coat the two days out of the year that it snows where I live, but otherwise they just feel weird.  I’m not sure if it’s because I have weird boxy shoulders or my arms are too long (I’m like a monkey), but every jacket I have tried just never fits right.  I am okay with some fleece jackets, as they don’t tend to be so stiff and robot-like, but I’m even picky about those.  I know, I know.

But Melody, you live in a giant barren ice desert during the winter, we’re dying to know what you wear!!  Cardigans, my friends.  Sometimes sweaters, sometimes long-sleeved 1/2-zip pullovers to the gym, but mostly cardigans.  Because I despise jackets, these cardigans have to pull a lot of weight.  They have to be fashionable (because that’s totally my middle name) and they have to be WARM.

Emilie introduced me to this Bobeau Asymmetrical Fleece Wrap Cardigan last holiday season and this thing is fantastic.  It is adorable and CRAZY warm.  I have it in the color Mink, but am pretty certain I will have it in at least two more colors this year.  There are 21 to choose from.  I could potentially wear a different one almost every day of the month.  I told you I was fashionable.

Boots, boots and some more boots

Rewind to last year before I knew that boots were awesome.  I was always like, “What in the world do I wear on my feet in the winter?”.  I’m your typical flip-flops-through-the-frigid-months type of girl, mainly because I didn’t know what in the heck else to wear.  Sneakers are not dressy, heels are not practical.

Then I wised up and went all boot crazy.  I bought two black pairs and a cute brown pair and BOOM.  All dressed up.  BOOM.  No need to paint my toenails.  BOOM. No hypothermia.  Seriously, some of the most versatile items I own.

Canned pumpkin and all it entails

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention my obsession with pumpkin.  We buy it by the cartload at Costco and use it in EVERYTHING.  We make Pumpkin Pancakes from Practical Paleo almost every morning.  We throw it in smoothies, we bake muffins, we make truffles, we make pie.  I bake until I can’t see straight and send everything off to my husband’s coworkers.  Pumpkin is so stinking versatile and makes just about everything more delicious.

Some of the recipes we’ve been in love with this year:

You can also check out my All Things Pumpkin Pinterest board for more ideas.

Costco is generally where we pick up our canned pumpkin because it’s such a fantastic deal, but you can also find it at most grocery stores.  Amazon also sells the fantastic Farmer’s Market organic pumpkin in packs of 12.

What is your favorite, go-to pumpkin recipe?

Have I convinced you to buy Zella leggings yet?  Why not?

Are you effortlessly fashionable like everyone else in the world?  Is it just me that is left out?

I’m not a fan of pumpkin, I’m convinced I will never have enough money to buy anything at Nordstrom before I die (I do most of my clothes shopping at thrift stores), and oh my gosh NO, I am completely not fashionable (as you probably already guessed). I would go buy your clothing recommendations if I could afford them, though. They’re cute!

Love it! I definitely am not an everyday Nordstrom shopper, the couple pieces I have were splurges or given to me as gifts. Although I’d have to say the money is worth it when it’s spent, because those babies will last forever.

My husband has more clothes than I do, I’m a wear-the-same-items-in-different-variations-everyday type of girl.
