{Local} Finley’s Fresh Produce CSA now accepting sign-ups for 2012

by Melody on January 4, 2012

I’m so excited to let you know that Finley’s Fresh Produce out of Hermiston has opened up their community-supported agriculture program for 2012!

Last year was the first year that we took part in this program and we were surprised and delighted at every turn.  Their produce is amazing, the flexibility and affordability of the program is unmatched and the Finley’s are wonderful.  They are very open about their communication and were available for questions, recipe ideas or just to tease my husband every week at the pick-up.

One of our weekly pick-ups:

Finley’s Fresh Produce provides naturally grown produce that is pesticide-free.  They are Food Alliance certified, which taken from the website means “To show social and environmental responsibility in the food industry and to demonstrate commitment to sustainability in agriculture practices and facility management”.

Here’s how the program works:

  • Choose the amount of weekly shares you want – As low as $156 total or 3 shares per week
  • Send in your sign-up form with a deposit or full payment by January 31st
  • Once the season starts (May – October), you pick up your pre-paid produce each week at a designated spot

Last year’s delivery spot was the loading dock at Kadlec on Stevens.  Pick-up date was Tuesday from 3 PM to 6 PM.  You bring your own containers and get to choose the produce items you want to take home that week.  You have the flexibility to take more or less each week and if you miss a week, you can make up your shares over the course of the next few weeks.

I seriously can’t say enough about this program.  Last year, we got 3 shares each week and I’m definitely bumping it up to 4. Toying around with the idea of 5.  We rarely had to pick up produce at the store last year, including fruit!  This program is so easy and flexible and the variety is amazing.

If you are interested in signing up, head to Finley’s newly revamped website, fill out the sign-up form and send in at least a deposit before the end of the month.  They also have a 2012 vegetable list if you are interested in checking out what they have to offer.

You can read my review from last year, plus check out a few additional pictures.  Please let me know if you have any questions about our experience and I’d be happy to help out.  I can’t wait for May!
