A good friend of mine is participating in a “Barbells for Boobs” event through her Crossfit gym to help raise money for breast cancer awareness.
BARBELLS FOR BOOBS ® is a 501(c)3 non-profit breast cancer organization whose mission is to provide funding through the MAMMOGRAMS IN ACTION ® GRANT PROGRAM for qualified low-income and uninsured women and men who need screening and/or diagnostic procedures in the prevention of breast cancer.
Straight from the Barbells for Boobs website:
Our Vision: to raise awareness of the incidence of breast cancer under the age of 40, and provide resources to those that typically would not have access to screening and diagnostic procedures for preventative purposes.
Our Commitment: to be a proactive voice in early detection, promote self-checks and regular check-ups with health care professionals and provide straightforward access to services for any man or women, regardless of age.
Our Goal: to provide funding to breast centers globally through our Mammograms In Action ® Grant Program as a “last resort” resource for thousands of people who do not qualify for government funding or other charitable resources. Funding for screenings and diagnostic procedures is not only a necessity, but really does SAVE LIVES.
Our mission is possible, our message is simple: SAVE A PAIR. SAVE A LIFE.
What a fantastic cause! Breast cancer is so prevalent, and I love that the organization has a large focus on providing services to women under 40. Although this demographic is in the lower percentage of cancer findings, they want to make sure that we are not overlooked. The organization focuses on all breast cancer detection as well, regardless of age or gender.
My friend’s gym is hosting a fundraiser for Barbells for Boobs and it is super easy to make a donation if you are interested. I know there are so many ways to donate and organizations to go through, but I love the basic principle of this one. If this is a cause close to your heart and you have been wanting to find a simple way to donate, this opportunity is for you.
