CrossFit

After MONTHS of thinking about CrossFit and worrying about it and “maybe I’ll try it this weekend” and driving everyone around me nuts, I finally decided to give it a try in November of 2012.  My friend Dani has been going to Natural Selection CrossFit for well over a year and has made the most amazing strides with her health,  her body image and her fitness level, that I knew it was the logical next step for me.

My husband and I had been working out at home for a few years doing P90X, Insanity and a few others and those worked great for awhile.  We both lost quite a bit of weight and were able to boost our endurance and get a little bit stronger, but there is only so much at-home workouts can do before you hit a wall (or spend a fortune on equipment).

My husband and I both started out going two days a week, plus free Saturday classes, and in six months worked our way up to unlimited weekly classes.  We have fallen in L.O.V.E.  CrossFit is such an amazing mix of strength, endurance, weight training, gymnastics and so much more.  We have done handstand push-ups, full pull-ups, lifted some amazing weight, participated in the CrossFit Open, ran 5K races with our new found endurance and immersed ourselves in this fantastic culture.  CrossFit is empowering and contrary to popular belief, accessible to ALL fitness levels.

Why I Registered for the 2013 CrossFit Open

By signing up to “compete” in the Open, I got to compare my scores with top athletes and all the athletes in our gym.  You can’t scale your weight or modify exercises in these workouts, otherwise you won’t quality, so you are forced to push yourself outside of your comfort zone.  I realized what my body is really capable of when it’s not hampered by my own insecurities.  And it was SO fun.
