As of October 21, 2013, Amazon has increased the minimum purchase order on their Super Saver Shipping to $35, originally $25. Super Saver Shipping allows you to combine eligible items up to a certain amount for free ground shipping, without having to pay per item.
According to Amazon, this is “the first time in more than a decade that Amazon has altered the minimum order for free shipping in the US”.
They have also expanded their free shipping options on thousands of items. If you search for a specific product, on the left hand screen, it allows you to sort by a “Free Shipping by Amazon” option. This brings up all the items that ship for free on their own or with your Prime membership.
For those of you that have used the Super Saver Shipping option, now might be a great time to try out Amazon Prime. They are currently offering a FREE one-month trial Prime membership.
We have had a Prime membership for 2 years now and have been really pleased. A few of the benefits:
- FREE 2-day shipping on tons of items sitewide
- No minimum order size
- Borrow a Kindle book for free each month from the Lending Library
- Unlimited instant streaming of thousands of movies and TV shows with Amazon Instant Video
If you are any kind of online shopper, I guarantee you will use this to pieces. Not only does Amazon have historically lower prices than most retail stores, but having Prime gives you the chance to take care of last minute gifts that are guaranteed to arrive in time. I can’t even count the number of times having a gift show up on my doorstep in two days has saved me from dragging my kids around town looking for something that may or may not be cheaper.
One of our very favorite features of the Prime membership is the unlimited movie/TV streaming! We have watched countless documentaries, older movie favorites and even newer movies like The Hunger Games for FREE. We stream through our Roku box, but you can also use your PS3, Xbox 360 and more. We are currently loving our way through Curious George: Season 1. That monkey is pretty awesome.
It looks like this is not available if you have signed up for a free trial in the past, it is just for new customers. Please note: You will have to cancel your membership at the end of your 30-day trial or you will be charged for the full membership. This is really easy to do through your Amazon account.
