Giveaway: Totally Together Planner and Organizer (2 winners)

by Melody on September 9, 2013

I hope you all are as excited about this giveaway as I am. I have been using the Totally Together: Shortcuts to an Organized Life Planner and Organizer written by Stephanie O’Dea, for just over two years now. I never thought that a simple planner could change my life, but I guarantee you, it has been the most amazing thing I’ve brought into our house thus far.

She touches on the 7 things you should complete every day (laundry, dishes, etc) and gives fantastic tips on keeping your house up on a daily basis. Each day, there are check boxes for these 7 items. I love lists, I love making them, crossing things off them. This is a list written out for me. I get to cross off making my bed every day, it makes me feel so accomplished!

Each week also has items that I often forget, like changing the filters in our house, changing bed linens, buying cards for upcoming birthdays and anniversaries. She includes tips on meal planning and a fabulous timeline for making the holidays as stress-free as possible. I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders, as these oft-forgotten chores are the things that clog up my to-do list and my brain.

The planner starts in September, beginning of the school year, but the dates are left blank. You fill in the dates based on the year you are using the planner, each month also gets five weeks to account for extra days in certain months.

After using the planner for two years, I can’t rave about it enough. My house has never been cleaner and I feel like I am putting in half the work. Just keeping up with simple tasks each day, like using a wet towel to wipe up the bathroom floor and counter before throwing it in the wash, has changed the way I clean my house. I have had far less anxiety because everything is tracked in the planner, with absolutely no help from me. I switch weeks, the planner says wash bed linens, so I do it. Except when my 3-year old pees the bed every day for a week, then I wash daily.  Everything else? I barely have to think about it. This thing is genius and brilliant and mind-blowing.

You can purchase the Totally Together planner through Amazon right now just $10.71. Every penny spent is worth it, I promise.

My favorite tip to keeping my home organized is to keep an easy to access spot for my paperwork, which includes sections for bills, school work, coupons, and magazines.

My tip is to never leave a room empty handed. There are always things in a room that need to go somewhere else. If I do a little bit each time, it doesn’t end of being too overwhelming.

Favorite tip for keeping my house organized carried over from when I worked at a daycare. The toys are in organized totes with a picture of what goes in them. One tote out at a time, if for some reason that doesn’t happen, the pictures make it fun to sort and own what goes where! And if a stuffed animal doesn’t fit in the tote we get rid of something so that it does.

My fav house organizing tip is: Do one load of laundry per day. Start it in the morning, pop in the dryer in the afternoon, fold and put away before bed. One load is easy to stay on top of vs. letting the laundry monster pile up and eat me alive. :)

I work fulltime and have a 1year old and a four year old.we stay organized by using a white board that is by the front door . I have color coated it for the kids myself and my husband so looking at we know who has what appt classes meetings etc. It has really helped my daughter to know what she has going on she picked pink so she knows everything in pink is for her!! It helps keep everyone in a routine.

I store sheet sets inside the pillowcase. Then I keep the pillowcase bundle in each bedroom closet. It frees up space in the linen cupboard and there is no guesswork as to what size/which bed each set is for.

This might seem really simple, but we have a picture frame with three key ring hooks that helps us to always know exactly where our keys are. We each have a designated hook, and it is hung high enough that our toddler can’t reach it. It’s nice to never waste time looking for our keys.

Shauna September 13, 2013 at 6:11 pm

I subscribe! To keep track, I assign “roles” rather than tasks. I’m the organizer, so I methodical go around throughout the week organizing things that are disorganized. My husband is the “wiper”, he gets to wipe down all surfaces, baseboards, anything he finds throughout the week. The kids love it, and during the week the house stays really, really clean! although on weekends there are chores listed.

my number #1 way of staying organized (not that i’d consider myself organized…’sane’ might be a better word *ha*) is trying to be mindful of what we bring in to the house. the less stuff i have, the less we have to organize :).

staples sells empty printer paper boxes for $1. the sizes are perfect to organize/store various items and stack nicely. i add a (handwritten) label on them before storing.

kinetta johnson September 13, 2013 at 6:51 pm

btw – i’m a mom of of 5, ages 7 to 1yrs old – i was up until 2am researching various ‘mom’ planners last night – a friend sent me a link to stephanie o’dea’s FB – that’s how i came across this posting – i’m excited about this contest – but will definitely consider stephanie’s planner. do you know if there is a way to get a ‘peak inside’ before purchasing?

Favorite home trick: baskets. I keep one in my kitchen that I dump all of the coupons, school stuff, marginally important mail, etc. in to keep it from cluttering my counters and kitchen table. On weekends I sort, toss, file or attend to. It helps keep my sanity during the week when I really don’t have time to deal with every little thing.
