Recap of The Color Run Spokane

A group of girlfriends and I headed up to Spokane this past weekend to take part in The Color Run 5k race and had an AMAZING time.  I’ve run quite a few different races and I have to tell you, I’ve never had more fun running 3+ miles.  If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably looked at the pictures and assumed they were pretty staged.  The idea of throwing a bunch of color on people sounds cool, but there is no way people are that excited standing out in the middle of the street.

Wrong.

They have this race set up SO well.  The swag is fun, the colors are fun, the emcees are fun, the music is loud, people get all riled up and they basically force you to have a good time.  Seriously, it’s infectious.

Just so there aren’t any misconceptions, there is actual running that’s involved.  You do have to get from point A to point B (3+ miles away) somehow, so it’s not just all about the color.  Throughout the race though, they have color stations set up that you run through and get doused with color.  Then you run some more, more color, more running, more color and then the finish line just appears.  There’s so much going on, it feels like it flies by.

At the end of the race, you can meet up with your friends if you didn’t run together and join in for the color throw that they run every 10-15 minutes.  They blast some insanely catchy music, throw out tons of color packets and then it’s just an explosion.  You dance and scream and can’t see a foot in front of you. CRAZY.  Then you look like this.  And you take pictures with your phone you had shoved in your sock that still somehow manages to get covered in color.

And then you do choreographed handstands.  Because that’s what CrossFit girls do when they see an empty wall.

And if you happen to be in Spokane, run to Maggie’s Grill in South Hill.  We were waited on by Maggie herself, who didn’t blink an eye at our outrageous outfits and color blasted faces.  She will serve you poached eggs with prosciutto, asparagus and smoked gouda.  Or stuffed french toast with berries, cream cheese and BACON.  Go.

If you have never run a 5k before, this would be a great way to jump in.  Grab a group of friends, dress up like pretty, pretty princesses (even the boys) and ENJOY YOURSELF.
