Coming up on Saturday January 19th, I will be participating in the Polar Plunge: Freezin’ For a Reason event at Columbia Park in Kennewick with Natural Selection CrossFit. If you aren’t familiar with the Polar Plunge, it is an event organized by law enforcement agencies across the state of Washington to raise money for Special Olympics. Those participating raise money through donations and pretty much just jump in the freezing cold river.
If you aren’t familiar with Special Olympics, here is a brief rundown:
Special Olympics Washington provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.
Although jumping in the river in January sounds pretty awful, it’s for an amazing cause and it’s a HUGE community event.
I am mentioning the Plunge just in case any of you were looking for an easy way to donate to the Special Olympics. You are under absolutely no obligation, but if you are so inclined, you can quickly make an online donation through my page. Your donation will help support and provide year-round sports training for adults and children with disabilities.
Click here to make a donation. Is anyone else doing the Plunge this year? I’ll be the one dragging my husband in the water.
