Giveaway: Totally Together Planner & Organizer: Shortcuts to an Organized Life

by Emilie on August 13, 2012

I hope you all are as excited about this giveaway as I am.  I have been using the Totally Together: Shortcuts to an Organized Life (Amazon), Planner and Organizer written by Stephanie O’Dea, for just about a year now. I never thought that a simple planner could change my life, but I guarantee you, it has been the most amazing thing I’ve brought into our house thus far.

She touches on the 7 things you should complete every day (laundry, dishes, etc) and gives fantastic tips on keeping your house up on a daily basis.  Each day, there are check boxes for these 7 items.  I love lists, I love making them, crossing things off them.  This is a list written out for me.  I get to cross off making my bed every day, it makes me feel so accomplished!

Each week also has items that I often forget, like changing the filters in our house, changing bed linens, buying cards for upcoming birthdays and anniversaries.  She includes tips on meal planning and a fabulous timeline for making the holidays as stress-free as possible.  I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders, as these oft-forgotten chores are the things that clog up my to-do list and my brain.

The planner starts in September, beginning of the school year, but the dates are left blank.  You fill in the dates based on the year you are using the planner, each month also gets five weeks to account for extra days in certain months.

After using the planner for about a year, I can’t rave about it enough.  My house has never been cleaner and I feel like I am putting in half the work.  Just keeping up with simple tasks each day, like using a wet towel to wipe up the bathroom floor and counter before throwing it in the wash, has changed the way I clean my house.  I have had far less anxiety because everything is tracked in the planner, with absolutely no help from me.  I switch weeks, the planner says wash bed linens, so I do it.  I barely have to think about it.  This thing is genius and brilliant and mind-blowing.

You can purchase the Totally Together planner through Amazon right now just $10.47.  Every penny spent is worth it, I promise.

Hi! I’m a Facebook follower and subscribe to the emails. My best tip is to clean during commercials. Sometimes I wanna watch tv and not clean but both can be done effectively.

I do what Desi does as well…breaks up the cleaning/organizing. What I like to do is make a list of what needs to be done, then number them in order to be done and I also put the time I expect it will take to get done. I then do them during commercials and I love crossing things off my list.

I signed up to receive email updates. My best cleaning tip is this: when something’s in front of me, if it takes less than 5 minutes to complete, I do it right away! If not, I make a note to accomplish it later. If I leave every task, large and small, for the end of the day, there’s simply too much to do. Having the little jobs finished is super helpful and keeps the flow of the day going!

My favorite organization tip is to keep a freezer inventory list. That way you can buy ahead when there’s a sale and nothing ever gets forgotten in the back.

My best organizing tip is to do laundry every day, which seems to help the rest of the house seem cleaner for some reason.

My best at keeping organized is taking care of things as they come up and not putting it on a list for later. Long lists stress me out and if things can be done right as I see it I have a greater sense of satisfaction.

Candra Fisher August 14, 2012 at 6:21 am

This looks great! I could really use this in my life right now. Thanks for the inspiration…

Hi. Just found you on Facebook through Pacific NW Giveaways. I have subscribed to your website, liked your facebook page and Totally Together’s facebook page. I have been searching the internet on ways to become more organized to run a smoother household as well as meal planning tips. So I don’t have any tips…but I could sure use some! :)

On Sundays, I cut and organize my new coupons, go through the ads and plan all of my week’s meals based on the ads and what I already have. By being prepared before the week starts, I eat out less and save money.

Nissa August 14, 2012 at 7:59 am

My favorite tip is to pick up as you go! Every night before bed I *make* everyone do a quick sweep through the common areas to pick up and put away their items…whatever isn’t picked up becomes mine for a week!!

Do a 5 minute clean up each night before bed. Pick up the toys, clothes, ect laying around the house and put them away. It makes the house look much cleaner each morning.

My tip: leave the sink empty and clean every night!
(Even if that means dirty dishes on the counter. Though a clean counter is preferable.) This sets off the tone of my morning. So frustrating to start with dirty dishes in the sink, cause I feel like I have a bunch of work to do (empty/clean sink) before I can start on the project at hand.

My favorite tip: when washing windows (with warm water & a splash of vinegar in a dishpan, and a sqeegee) wipe one side of the glass vertically, and go horizontally on the other side — that way if there’s a streak, you know where to wipe.

Kristy August 14, 2012 at 12:53 pm

I’m already a subscriber!! Great tips in the comments, we use a lot of the same ones too. One thing we’ve been doing is having a daily, weekly, and monthly checklist as far as cleaning chores go. If most of these get done, I feel as if my house is in good shape. It is so much easier to maintain a clean room than to start from scratch. The kids don’t get this yet, but maybe someday :)

My favorite tip on keeping a house organized is to plan my grocery shopping totally before I leave the home, including my list, what coupons I need, what price the sale items are, and have my cash envelope (learned this from Dave Ramsey). The case piece has really revolutionized my life.
