So many of you have said that you enjoy reading my sporadic fitness updates to keep you motivated (or to try and get you motivated), that I decided to make it a monthly feature. This helps me as well to remember what in the world we did for the previous month. It helps keep me on track and realize when we need to step it up a little more or be more proactive about our goals.
My husband and I started P90X2 (Amazon) at the beginning of the year and just finished at the end of March. Since we both work out at home, it has taken a little bit of sacrifice to squeeze in both of our workouts. I get up before the kids wake up to exercise and my husband works out immediately after he gets home from work. It took us a long time to figure out a schedule and what would work for both of us, as most of you know those evening hours can be precious.
We both are extremely happy with our results. I didn’t necessarily lose any weight, but I didn’t have much to lose. I worked mainly on toning up my muscles, which I can definitely see in my arms, back, shoulders and core. I’ll just put this out there. I have never in my life had a six-pack. Never. Not even when I played sports every day in high school. Thanks to P90X, I have a four-pack that shows, with a 2-pack hidden under a little layer of extra baby skin. I know it’s there and that’s what counts.

P90X2 was so drastically different than the first P90X (Amazon) and we loved it. If you have done P90X and are looking for something different, we would both recommend it. There is not much of a focus on cardio, but my husband did lose quite a bit of weight throughout the program. The focus is mainly on core strength, strength training, balance and performance.
Fitness and exercise have become such a big part of our lives and at this point, I don’t think either of us could imagine NOT working out each day. P90X has shown me what amazing things my body is capable of. I started out in 2011 with Jillian Michaels 30-Day Shred (Amazon) and thought there was no way in the world I’d ever be able to do a full push-up. Now, I’m doing 10-20 at a time with weights, on a stability ball, with plyometric jumps in between. It’s so empowering to watch my body get stronger and become what it was meant to be.
If you can find it in your day to squeeze in even a little exercise, DO IT. I used every excuse in the book before I finally got fed up. Fitness and exercise are not a fad. I think deep down we all know that the best way to achieve our goals is a balanced diet and exercise. I see so many diets out there that claim you will lose all the weight you want without changing your eating habits and without exercise. Maybe there is a miracle pill out there, but I doubt it. Besides, there is nothing much better than the feeling you get after pushing your body to the limit. I strongly believe there is nothing better you can do for your body, your heart, your mind and your soul.
Our next step is to complete a second round of P90X2. The different phases are set up so you can focus on different areas of your body based on how long you stay in each phase. I’m going to focus more on a total body workout, while my husband is going to focus more on straight strength training (upper/lower body). We also have a trip to Vegas planned in May AND I bought a new bathing suit, I need the external motivation sometimes.
I’ve also been thinking about joining my friend Dani at Crossfit, but don’t tell her. I haven’t committed yet.

I definitely think it’s hardest in the beginning to create and stick with a routine. Share with us your success stories! Or your not so successful stories, we’re here to motivate.
