Kiva.org: Celebrate International Women’s Day by directing a $25 loan to women borrowers at no cost to you

by Melody on March 6, 2012

In honor of International Women’s Day, Kiva.org has launched Kiva.org/women to help direct loans to women who are trying to create financial independence through entrepreneurship.  Partnering with Kiva is the company Dermalogica, who is funding a $100,000 free trial program for new Kiva members.

What is Kiva.org?

Kiva is the world’s first and largest microlending website, where anyone can make a loan to a borrower anywhere in the world.  With loans starting at just $25, it is a simple way to get involved and help out without breaking the bank.  Loans through Kiva have a 98.9% payback rate.

How can you help?

Dermalogica is providing free trial loans of $25 to the first 4,000 registrants.  This trial will allow you to direct a $25 loan to the borrower of your choice, with no out of pocket spent.  When repaid, the money will return to Dermalogica, but you get to choose the borrower.  Limit 1 free trial per person.

  • Choose a Kiva borrower from the thousands on the site (search by country, type of loan and more)
  • Register for a new account and your loan will be directed to the borrower
  • You’ll receive updates on your loan as it progresses

It was really tough to choose just one borrower.  There seemed to be so many deserving recipients, trying to better their lives through higher education, help with a small business or helping with small home repairs to improve their living situations.
