Turbo Tax: File your federal taxes for free

by Melody on January 19, 2012

Every year that I have been doing my taxes on my own, I’ve used Turbo Tax.  They have several different versions based on your needs and how complicated your taxes are, but the basic version is completely free.  They ask you tons of questions and help you check for deductions and credits you may have missed.  We have been really happy with the free version every year, although this year we are hiring someone to do our taxes.  Things got a little more complicated with the blog.

Click here to check out Turbo Tax for yourself.

Please note: If you have to file state taxes, you will pay an additional charge.

If you do need a more advanced version of Turbo Tax, check with your credit union or brokerage / retirement plan to see if they offer discounts. I’ve been able to get a good discount by going thru Vanguard’s Turbo Tax link the past few years.
