Top 10 blog posts of 2011 (as voted on by me)

by Melody on January 9, 2012

In the spirit of the blog’s 2nd anniversary, I thought I would share some of my favorite posts from 2011.  These are in no particular order and there was zero research done as far as which post got the most traffic or the most comments.  These are just all posts that seem to have resonated with you, have resonated with me, have made some significant change in my life (or yours it seems).

Finding deals and working on crazy Rite Aid match ups are fun for me, but what has really kept me blogging as long as I have are these “meat and potatoes” type posts.  I’m very blessed to be able to share my personal stories and experience all that you as a community have to offer.

  • Rite Aid: A Call to ArmsWhen we were in the thick of the 2011 Couponing Crisis and everyone was crying foul at the “hoarders” and “shelf clearers”.  This post got some serious reactions.  Not long after I forwarded this post on to Rite Aid’s Public Relations department, they started putting some serious limits on +UP Reward items.  I am NOT saying this was due to this post, but I was not the only one who was searching for a solution.  Look where we are today.
  • Our serious budget strugglesI tried for several months to pretend that my old grocery budget was working, even though we were buying far more fresh, whole foods and far less processed.  This post seemed to strike a chord with you and I was happy to finally admit that the budget needed some padding.
  • A slightly boring week in the life of a fairly average couponerBack in May, I launched this week long series to share all the little things I do to save money that don’t require coupons.  I wanted to show you a wide range of ideas for trimming your budget without having to be a card-carrying hard-core couponer.  Your response to this was so wonderful, I decided to make it a weekly series.  Oddly enough, the majority of my money saving tips revolve around all the things I like to cook.
  • Our “My Favorite Things” seriesThis was just fun to write.  Emilie, Jessie and I shared our favorite products in all kinds of different categories.  We shared appliances, food, beauty products, kids items, books, clothes.  I’m a huge fan of telling anyone who will listen about products I love, so this was right up my alley.  Brilliant brainchild of Emilie.
  • Halfway through 2011 fitness updateAgain, this was from back in May.  I shared a quick update on my fitness goals and the success I had.  Your response, support and inspiration was spectacular.  I feel like our shared fitness goals, challenges, setbacks and successes have brought this community a little closer.
  • Final fitness update of 2011Okay, this one was actually posted in 2012, but the content is from 2011.  Honestly, the success I’ve had with my goals from last year exceeded even my own expectations.  Several of you mentioned that you were inspired to start your own exercise routine, which makes me feel so humbled.  Good luck to all of you who have started this year!

What an amazing year.  It was really fun for me to look back through my posts from this year, it made me reflect on how far we have come as a family.  Sharing this blog and our story is a sort of digital timeline for me, which is fantastic because I can’t remember a darn thing these days.

What have been your favorites posts or series?  What would you like to see more of this year?  Again, thank you to all of you for following, commenting, reading, sharing and being such a wonderful part of this community.  Here’s to 2012!

(Did anyone else notice this isn’t even 10?  Nor is it all posts, some are blocks of posts or even a post series.  I think you can live with it.)
