Meet the newest member of This Beautiful Frugal Life

by Melody on June 13, 2011

I just love writing this blog so much and interacting with all of you, but I’ve been noticing lately that I’ve had less and less time for the actual “writing and interacting” part.  There is a LOT that goes on behind the scenes at This Beautiful Frugal Life and up until now, I’ve been managing it all myself.

I’m so excited to introduce Emilie to you!  She is going to be helping me out with all kinds of behind-the-scenes stuff so I can focus more on writing the things I want to write, being more available for all of you and building/maintaining my relationships with other fabulous bloggers.

I have been so blessed to call Emilie my best friend since all the way back to 3rd grade.  I tell everyone who will listen that they must have a friend like her and am considering loaning her out on a temporary basis to those in need.  She knows absolutely everything about me and helps me be a better parent, wife, friend and blogger every day.

She also LOVES finding a great deal and more importantly, loves sharing them with me so I can pass them on to you.  The majority of the reason This Beautiful Frugal Life is even remotely successful is due in part to Emilie’s massive amount of friends.

I asked Emilie to share a little about herself:

Hi, I’m Emilie!  A spender at heart, I became a saver somewhat reluctantly when I quit working to stay home with our son four years ago.  Learning to live within our budget has been a redemptive and joyful experience and I’m excited to be able to share some of my successes and struggles with you in the realm of saving money.  I’m truly passionate about encouraging and educating people on how to live for less and focus on what really is important.  Hint, it isn’t more money. :)

As a stay at home mom of three kids under five, managing our home and budget is currently my most important job.  That is, after snuggling babies, changing diapers, cleaning up spit up and washing countless loads of laundry.  I manage our family’s budgets, volunteer as a financial coach where I help with budgeting and debt reduction, and dream about the days when I used to work in the marketing/sales world and got to use spreadsheets all the time.  Our family saves money weekly by using cash, avoiding debt, meal planning (from our stockpile!), cooking from scratch, only buying what we truly need, knowing what the best prices are on what we use and cutting coupons of course!

I love the thrill of the hunt! I don’t buy every sweet deal, but I sure love to find them.  I have been known to spam all my friends with the hottest diaper, wipe, or pure maple syrup deal until they block my email address. I’m looking forward to sharing some of these finds with you via Melody.

Although I recently declared my disdain for hippies, I’m truly one at heart.  I cloth diaper, dream of wearing maxi dresses everyday and make my kids drink raw green smoothies.    In no particular order I’m a lover of travel, helping friends cook out of their pantry, licorice, popsicles, exclamation points, Blendtec, my patient husband, organic foods, Words with Friends, my three rascally kids, home design, dreaming about being organized and getting the mail.

And just so I’m really transparent here – at all costs I avoid creepy bugs, dirty children, disorganized coupon stacks, processed foods (except on vacation) and minivans.  Just kidding, I drive a minivan.  After many years of protesting, I just simply gave up.  And one last confession, I almost always pay full price for my clothes.

I’m so excited to be contributing to This Beautiful Frugal Life and working with my favorite deal hunter, Melody.  I must warn you that I’m an idea girl and not a detail girl.  So, you will likely never see me do a proper matchup or price calculation.  I will try to inspire you with ideas for more healthful living, debt reduction, simple living and whatever Melody asks me to do really, except matchups.  Mainly I just email Melody super sweet deals she is so busy blogging about she doesn’t have enough time to hunt for.

Seriously, you have no idea how excited I am that Emilie and I were able to able to finagle two minutes out of our busy lives to have a proper phone conversation and hammer out all the details so she could start helping me out.  This Beautiful Frugal Life will be an infinitely more fantastic place to be now that she is around.

Please help me welcome Emilie to the crew!

I have a 30 year old Kitchenetics mixer/blender, an early product from your Blendtec company. It still works and is much like a Bosch. I have a VitaMix and almost every other appliance known to man. What was the hot deal on real maple syrup. Maybe I can mark my calendar to look for it next year about the same date. I am marking on my calendar all the days this year that the Idaho Statesman puts $10/$20 post it notes from Kohls so I can watch for them next year. I never pay full price for my clothes FYI. I will look forward to your posts. Thanks for the introduction.

Welcome Emilie! It’s because of Emilie that I even know anything about couponing or your blog. About a year ago she gave a coupon class at church and since then I’ve been hooked! So excited that she’s part of the Beautiful Frugal Life team. :)

Helen – you are wise to mark you calendar! I need to do that! The sales/coupons do usually come in cycles. What happens is that they release a coupon/hot deal one year and then the next year they have to make and beat last years sales so they do the same thing. I haven’t seen a hot maple syrup deal for a while but I’ll tell you as soon as I do. In the meantime, Costco has the best price. I think it is about $13 for 32 ounces. :o) Amazon comes close and often they will beat it. But, you know Amazon, we never know when those will pop up!
