30-day fitness goal = DONE

by Melody on April 20, 2011

I am so thrilled to tell you I have reached my first fitness goal for the year!  I started the  Jillian Michaels 30-Day Shred around the beginning of the year and it took me about 3 1/2 months to finish the entire thing.  Yes, I know it’s 30 days and yes, I know it took over triple that amount of time.

This truly was a fantastic and EFFECTIVE workout.  There are three different workouts, each a little bit more intense.  I did ten consecutive days of each workout, finishing with 10 days of the 3rd, which made me feel a bit like a superhero every time I finished.  It was that intense.

Overall, I lost 13 pounds and FIVE jean sizes.  Seriously, five.  All it took was about 25 minutes per day, which was more often than not squeezed into an episode of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse or afternoon nap time.  So quick and SO effective.  I have muscles in places I forgot even existed since having kids.

I have started the routine again, with the intent of mixing up the workouts this time so I don’t get into a rut.  I’m thrilled with how well I’ve been able to work it into my day.

I’m not telling you that you should do this workout or that it will be as effective for you.  I’m just sharing my experiences and they truly were fantastic.  In case you’re interested, Amazon has the full DVD for just $7.69 right now, less than I paid!

I asked my reader/friend/new couponer Brook if I could share what she told me about the workout:

  • “I have been struggling with my weight since my first daughter was born over 7 years now. This is the first time I’ve seen results without spending all day and frustrating myself. It’s a hard workout but it’s so easy to do because it’s short and it makes me feel great when I’m not sore :) I’ve done 7 days straight going on 8 today. I measured myself after only 5 days, 6.5 inches lost! Most of it in my thighs, hip, waist, bust. And I haven’t even changed my eating any yet. My husband even tells me I look better. I have a long way to go but I am so glad I found this. I just want to hug Jillian Micheals, I know weird right? :) I just had to tell you my results, I thought I’d be telling at the end of the 30 days. I never knew I’d see results this soon.”
Yet another reason why this blog is such a huge blessing in my life.  Not only do I get inspired to try new things, but I get to hear your fabulous stories as well.  Thanks Brook!

I know several of you said you were going to try this workout as well.  If you feel comfortable sharing your progress, leave a comment.  Inspire us!

Thanks for sharing. I just had my second baby and started this work out right before I got pregnant and never finished. This gives me some extra incentive to pick it up again when I get the green light to exercise.

Wow – 13lbs & 5 sizes! That’s impressive, Melody!! I have been back to jogging for a few mos but looking for something to do on all these rainy days we’ve had & just started trying out the Shred. This gives me the motivation to keep going & try to do it regularly (so I won’t get so frustrated when I can’t go out & run, too with the rain).

is this something that can be done at home? Do you need to purchase any weights or anything extra?

You can do it at home! You do need weights (I have a 3 lb set and 5 lb set) and I think I got them at Walmart for pretty inexpensive. Truthfully, you don’t NEED the weights, they just make the workout more effective.
